KSDK Interview: Alternative Wedding Gift Registries

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

I often get asked the question, “How can I make my wedding unique?” Well, for starters make it your own and a great way of doing it is thinking outside the box when it comes to your gift registry! I sat down with Dana Dean, to talk alternative wedding gift registries for this season. The wedding industry has came a long way, just four years ago when my husband and I were shopping for our registry it was such a painful experience! Now, you can registry for pretty much anything you want or even let your guests decide between a gift off of Etsy, excursions for your honeymoon, repairs for your home or even a donation to your local humane society. Watch my interview with Dana Dean as she explains our top picks!

Rachel and Jermal Seward 10.15.11

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

I just amazes me sometimes how a wedding day can be so perfect.  Wedding planners spend most of the year hoping and praying that the rain will stay away for their outdoor weddings… this October 15th wedding is no exception!

Rachel and Jermal met at the Zoo (they both very active in philanthropic work).  Jermal was on the board of the Young Zoo Friends and a mutual friend introduced the two at the annual Zootini.  So it was no surprise that they wanted to get married near by and it just so happens to be one of the most beautiful locations in St. Louis, Forest Park.  Rachel and Jermal wanted to have an outdoor ceremony, followed by an extended cocktail reception and later a dinner reception at Copia for close friends and family.  We lined The Statue with 250 chairs over looking all of Forest Park- every moment was breathtaking.

Rachel and Jermal celebrated with friends and family drinking champagne and nibbling on cake pops. This charming couple is loved by so many, and it was not an easy decision to go against having a large wedding party yet to have one best man and one maid of honor.  However, they honored 26 of their closest friends/family with boutonnieres and a large group picture.  I LOVED this idea…everyone seemed to as well!

2012 The Knot Best of Weddings

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

I am SO excited and happy to announce Kristin Ashley Events was awarded 2012 The Knot Best of Weddings!  I can’t thank my 2011 brides enough for being so amazing and writing such wonderful reviews.  I couldn’t ask for better brides and I am so lucky to be able to say that I honestly love what I do.  I have not only added a few notches under my wedding belt, but I have added a few more friends to my Christmas list ;)

I also wanted to say a little thank you to ALL the fabulous vendors that I’ve gotten the privilege to work with this year.  You are only as good as those you work with… and St. Louis has some great vendors in this industry!

I wish you all the best now…and always.  Thanks again and congrats to my 2011 clients!!!

Anne Cairns and Ryan Fillmann

A dear friend of mine, Brit Stewart, (who just happens to be Editor of Landlocked Bride), once said to me, “When searching for a good wedding blog to feature, I like to look behind the pictures and at the couple …I love a great story.” She turned at me and said, don’t you just LOVE a good wedding?! I do love a good wedding and I think great couples (like this one) make us appreciate weddings more than ever!  Just look at these amazing images by Gail Werner, she is hands down one of the best in Indiana!  Gail can tell a beautiful story just by her pictures…

It brings me nothing but joy to see friends and family getting married.  Anne, is considered a friend of mine, but I think of her more like family.  We are sorority sisters (Pi Phi’s) and if you know anything about the Greek community, you know we love our sisters! Anne was always the one looking out for everyone and anyone who comes in contact with her can’t help but to smile.  She had the same reaction on Ryan Fillmann.  Ryan just so happen to be friends with Anne’s brother but never made a move until her sister, Abby’s wedding.  For starters we (her sisters) would not approve of a boy who went to O-H-I-O! However, when we met Ryan, it wasn’t just Anne that fell in love with him… we all fell in love with him.

Ryan took Anne to Pittsburgh for a Steelers game and proposed at Mt. Washington with friends and family to witness it all.  On October 8th, we were so blessed to be apart of their special day, overlooking the most beautiful scenery in Indianapolis, IN.  I always like to stop, look around and take in every moment just like I tell my brides to.  It was such an intimate ceremony filled with hugs, smiles and tears of happiness and even though I can’t take credit for the planning process, it was an honor to be there with them witnessing their promises to each other.  They are truly meant for each other and I can’t wait for them to have little Fillmann’s :)

Royal Wedding

Friday, April 29th, 2011

And it was worth the wait…it was the wedding that had 2 BILLION people talking!  As my alarm clock went off at 3:00am I channeled into E! news for the arrival of guests (must see fashion & hats)! I grabbed my dogs, blanket, pillow and Ipad snuggled up on the couch, allowing myself to AHHH with all my Twitter/Facebook peeps.  So why is it that this wedding is so special, you may ask? Well…here are a few of my Royal Wedding favorites!

THE DRESS…OHHHHH THE DRESS!

The small town bride arrived at Westminster Abbey looking cool- calm, happy and not one bit over-whelmed in a traditional, (50′s inspired) one of a kind, Sarah Burton (creative director of Alexander McQueen) long-sleeve lace, ivory and satin gown with a V neckline and 8-foot-long train, a simple lace-edged veil and a “something borrowed/something old” 1936 tiara sparkling over her half up hairdo.  She accessorized with dangling earrings that was a gift given by her parents.

PIPPA MIDDLETON…

Complimenting her sister, Pippa, displayed her slender figure in a fitted an Alexander McQueen cream capped sleeve gown. The back was topped off with accenting silk buttons (probably took forever to get on)!

THE QUEEN

The Queen who didn’t do much singing, but looked pleasantly happy for her grandson, William.  She wore a detailed beading neckline, yellow dress with an overcoat and hat by Angela Kelly.

THE TIARA…

A Cartier “halo” tiara made in 1936 purchased by the Duke of York for his wife, Elizabeth, was lent to Kate by the Queen. Every girl’s dream….

Oh, she did her own make-up too!

WILLIAM…Dear Price William

Prince William wore his red military uniform…as he smiled awaiting his bride.  As Kate approached William he whispered, “You look so beautiful”…from that moment, I had my first “celebrity” crush.  As he was speaking his vows for all the world to hear you could feel his sincerity and love for her.  You can imagine… I had a box of tissues next to me.

THE EXIT

Who doesn’t want to get carried away in a horse and carriage?!? Yes please…oh by the way could you please block off the roads? I would like to test out my new wave ;)

MUSIC

The music was chilling…drums, stings, horns, choirs (as young as 9 years old).  The Hymns- classic!

LONDON

When do you ever see London like this?! I love the atmosphere and energy here- so many people are happy on this day.  As my friend Brit, Landlocked Bride, would day “LOVE a man in uniform!”

BEST DRESS GUESTS…

Do I need to explain myself? David and Victoria Beckham complimented each other’s style as they arrived side by side.

WORST DRESSED…

Sorry, hate the color, dress, hat & make-up…it just was NOT a winner for either. I just can’t stop laughing when I look at this!

AND THE KISSS! Ohhhh the DOUBLE kiss!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge lived happily ever after!
