Anne Cairns and Ryan Fillmann

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

A dear friend of mine, Brit Stewart, (who just happens to be Editor of Landlocked Bride), once said to me, “When searching for a good wedding blog to feature, I like to look behind the pictures and at the couple …I love a great story.” She turned at me and said, don’t you just LOVE a good wedding?! I do love a good wedding and I think great couples (like this one) make us appreciate weddings more than ever!  Just look at these amazing images by Gail Werner, she is hands down one of the best in Indiana!  Gail can tell a beautiful story just by her pictures…

It brings me nothing but joy to see friends and family getting married.  Anne, is considered a friend of mine, but I think of her more like family.  We are sorority sisters (Pi Phi’s) and if you know anything about the Greek community, you know we love our sisters! Anne was always the one looking out for everyone and anyone who comes in contact with her can’t help but to smile.  She had the same reaction on Ryan Fillmann.  Ryan just so happen to be friends with Anne’s brother but never made a move until her sister, Abby’s wedding.  For starters we (her sisters) would not approve of a boy who went to O-H-I-O! However, when we met Ryan, it wasn’t just Anne that fell in love with him… we all fell in love with him.

Ryan took Anne to Pittsburgh for a Steelers game and proposed at Mt. Washington with friends and family to witness it all.  On October 8th, we were so blessed to be apart of their special day, overlooking the most beautiful scenery in Indianapolis, IN.  I always like to stop, look around and take in every moment just like I tell my brides to.  It was such an intimate ceremony filled with hugs, smiles and tears of happiness and even though I can’t take credit for the planning process, it was an honor to be there with them witnessing their promises to each other.  They are truly meant for each other and I can’t wait for them to have little Fillmann’s :)

Anne and Ryan’s Engagement Pictures

I am fortunate enough to know this bride and groom for years now.  Anne is a sorority sister of mine from Purdue University.  She is one of the most fun loving, humble girls I know.  Everyone that cross paths with this kindergarden teacher has nothing but nice things to say.  So it wasn’t much of a surprise when Ryan felt the same way about her.  We all loved and adored Ryan from day one but we all like to think that he was one lucky guy to snag such a wonderful girl…

Ryan and Anne have known each other for a long time. Their relationship started off just being family friends but they both went off to college didn’t really cross paths again until her senior year of college (Ryan was living/working in Muncie which is not far from Purdue.) Anne laughs and says she wishes she had a great romantic story about how they reunited but it is as simple as it sounds, they ran into each other after many years…at a bar…and have been together ever since.

Leigh and Alex Beelke Wedding

DIY Wedding

Do you ever notice how many people end up crying or tearing up at weddings?  I know a lot of people hate crying at weddings because of the mascara mishaps, showing your true feelings (boys), or having to carry around soggy Kleenexes, but I personally love it when I get to be a part of weddings that make me tear up.  I guess the tears represent that ultimate symbol of connection to the bride/groom/love/ life and everything in between.  From the time Leigh told me she was engaged until the time she walked down the aisle, I’ve had to touch up quite a bit of eye makeup yet loved every second along the way…

Leigh is a sincere, kind, warm hearted, free spirited person who leaves a lasting impression on everyone she meets.  When I say everyone, I especially mean Alex because they met back in high school.  Alex is an outgoing, loyal, laid back guy who brings entertainment and smiles to all our gatherings.  Alex and Leigh really wanted a wedding all about friends and family in their hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana.  The Indy wedding was chic with inspirations from our well-known favorite bloggers; Landlocked Bride, Style Me Pretty, Green Wedding Shoes and Once Wed.

The Ceremony: Leigh and Alex had an onsite ceremony at the Marvis Art Center.  The aisle was hand made by Leigh’s mom and dad (who thankfully gave us the heads up on how to walk on it without messing it up ).  The guest count was near 150 with friends and family from all over.  The highlight of the day for me was Leigh’s dad giant smile throughout the entire ceremony; you could feel the happiness for his daughter radiating around the room; I’ve never seen any other father so elated. Through all the tears of happiness from Leigh’s mom, a few bridesmaids, and I, it was uplifting to witness the happiest father of the bride I’ve ever seen.

The Reception: I love nothing more than couples using their imaginations and incorporating things they already have and love for a reception theme.  Alex has spent most of his years collecting bottle caps and Leigh loves the vintage look of antique handkerchiefs.  Not to be overshadowed was the cocktail hour- the view overlooking the city was the perfect appetizer for an unforgettable night.  As guests entered the dinner area,  ohhhh’s and ahhhh’s echoed the room while everyone embraced the flowers done by Circle City Planner florist, Tiffany, admired the cupcake arrangement done by Flying Cupcake, and marveled at the art work given to the couple by Anna Beelke (Alex’s sister).  I was finally able to stop the tears and truly enjoy the beauty of the hard work, love, and celebration all around me.  Stay posted for professional pictures from Amanda Wilcher!
