For Girls Sake!

Calling all Brides and Bridesmaids…

A little rest and relaxation never hurt anyone! Treat your bridal party to a spa day. Facials, massages, pedicures and manicures… the options are endless. You could spend the day at a spa or have someone come to your house. Give everyone a homemade lemon sugar scrub as a souvenir. It easy to make, just sugar, lemon, and olive oil. Every time they use it, they will think of you.  There comes a point in your life where a girl just wants to have a little R & R and let’s just say, this one of the BEST Bachelorette parties I’ve ever been to! (Thanks Kerryann & Sarah)

Don’t mess up hair or makeup on wedding day. Get your bridesmaid’s men oxfords to wear on the wedding day. You can even monogram to personalize the for all the bridesmaids’. Blue for the bridesmaids and white for the bride. Pair with tall white socks for the Tom Cruise Risky Business look.

Personalizing wine glasses for the bridal party on the wedding day is a cute touch for a fun day. Simple to create your own with paint pens. Customize the color and design to fit the wedding colors. If you’re not artistic that’s ok! Tons of personalized glasses are being sold on esty.com

For a bridal shower or bachelorette party create a mimosa bar. Spice it up by making different flavors of mimosa from peaches to strawberries. Have fruit making the flavors out add a fresh feel. It not only looks cute, it also delicious!

Sushi is a great place to have a group dinner. Order family style so everyone gets what they want and try new things. Dress up and enjoy the company of your best friends around. Pick a place with good atmosphere like Tani or the Drunken Fish!

Try a girl’s night out! Pick a specialty bar like Sub Zero Vodka Bar or Baileys Chocolate Bar. Chocolate and Martini’s, a girl’s two best friends in one drink! This is a fun way to try new drinks for a girl night on the town!

Girls can love sports too! For a summer wedding, take the bridal party to a cards game. Who wouldn’t want to see the World Series Champions at work? This is a definite good time. And for the winter wedding, take the girls to a Blues game. Every girl loves a man in uniform!

Trolley around St Louis is a fun adventure. Bring a photographer or just your own camera and go tour St Louis. Stop at cute and fun spots around the city and pose away!

HEART Deco- A Valentine’s Treat

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

I have never been so IN LOVE with a photo shoot.  Honestly, one of the reasons I love this career path is because I get to collaborate with so many wonderful vendors in the wedding industry.  Most of you may know my background before weddings is visual merchandise.  So it’s no surprise that I love to use my creativity in a whole new light and not just weddings!

This blog was inspired by Heather’s parents who celebrate their 43rd wedding anniversary today! Everything in this blog is real…even the couple!

Maggie & Micah Lansford; A Midwest Tent Wedding

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

As I reflect on what a wonderful year 2011 was, I think back to all my fun, eventful and HOT weddings!  I can’t think of 2011 without this amazing tent wedding I was able to plan for a very special couple, Maggie and Micah.  Planning is never easy, but planning from another state, now that’s a challenge!  Not to mention this wasn’t a St. Louis wedding, this was a Richland, Missouri wedding (2 hours west in the middle of the rolling hills of  Missouri- this is also where I saw my first ever armadillo!)  Here is a “brief” story (I tried but they’re just too many details I couldn’t stop!)

Maggie and Micah chose the Levi Place to be married.  The farm was purchased by Maggie’s Great- Great Grandfather in the early 1900′s and became known as the Levi Place.  The farm has always stayed in the family and it is where they all gather to celebrate everyone’s company.  They now call it the Nickens and Sons Farm and has been the home of holiday parties, engagements and now Maggie and Micah started a new wedding tradition!

Their wedding festivities took place on July 4th weekend.  We are talking golfing, brunch, group float trips along the river, swimming, paddle boating, four wheeling, a large welcome party (I should mention hotdogs, s’mores and sparklers by the campfire- perfect touch!) and ended with a massive firework display thanks to Mr. Nickens, which we agreed it was a must have!

They really wanted this party to go for hours so we started off with a pre-ceremony welcome hour (it was 100* so we opt to do this one inside the Big House).  Guests were soon asked to take their seat on hay bales (don’t worry we covered them with hankies and pillow cases, as well as fan programs).  The very intimate ceremony took place in what they call the Secret Garden, also where they planted a tree just after they declared their promises to each other. (tearing up yet?) Following the ceremony we had cocktails on the main porch which had Spanish influences to it.  Maggie and Micah met in Spain while studying abroad, so they really wanted a small part of Spain tied in to their day. After cocktails, guests were able to enjoy a variety of food stations, music by the well-known St. Louis band, Downtime Productions and swoon over this whimsical fairytale outdoor wedding…

The details on this wedding are endless.  Maggie wanted her guests to feel like they were coming to just another one of their family get together’s, this one just happen to be extra special.  Her colors consisted of plume, fuchsia, lilac, rose, gold, ivory and burlap.  We had an amazing tent that was set up by Traube Tent on the parking lot and a beautiful fountain just happen to stand in the middle, which made a peaceful center piece.  Maggie loved the idea of hanging mason jars and lanterns to make up for a majority of the lighting, but what really made it dazzle was the extra lighting and draping brought in by St. Louis’s, Exclusive Events.  We had a variety of colors, textures and experiences that their friends and family got to adore.

Emily, from Slice of Lime created some of the best paper goods I’ve ever seen.  Guests were welcomed with a Welcome Booklets which consisted of a hand drawn map (made by Maggie), History of Land, Things to Do and Weekend Festivities

Can you just take a second to enjoy the view…thanks.

This tree was painted by a dear friend, “Leaf Your Thumbprint and Name”

To make sure the placecards didn’t fly away we painted their numbers on the rocks.  Perfect cocktail drink on a hot summer day a Sangria (of course).

Now, normally I would NEVER post a picture of a bathroom.  But listen up, if you are having an outdoor wedding, in the middle of July with 100* temperatures, you need a bathroom with AC people! There was simply no argument on this one…treat your guests right and they will forever be thankful for it :)

OH AND PLEASE…let’s not forget about the photo op! We pulled Ol’ Greener from the shed and fancied her up for this great little area guests could come take pictures and take home their own token from the wedding.  What’s not to love?!

Maggie and Micah, it was a wedding I will never forget.  Thank you for letting me be apart of it… good luck with your next chapter in life!

Kristin Ashley’s Holiday Blog

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

It brings me much joy to share with you…

I can remember from a young age my parents having the Bowerman & Kennedy families over for Thanksgiving.  My mom would always make sure everyone felt welcomed, loved and thankful.  When I say loved, I mean she made an extra batch of deviled eggs and saved me a bowl of raw (yes raw) stuffing.  As much as I like to think I was the favorite child she managed to save the dark meat for my brother and picked up a heavenly ham just for him…

We love Thanksgiving… but my mom couldn’t wait for the weekend after to start decorating our house in live size snowmen, santa’s galore, and Christmas cheer you could feel down the street. So it shouldn’t be much surprise to most that I love the holidays!! This is how it gets started at the Weis house…

First things first… Pandora! Classic Christmas music is the best!

Having a hard time deciding where to start? Pick up Real Simple- it’s my monthly must read!

“Forever Young” Essie nail polish and an “Apple Pie” Yankee candle yummm!

DIY project- yes people get out your hot glue gun and head to Hobby Lobby.  This year’s big thing is making your own wreath.  Before anyone walks in your door, welcome them with a little holiday cheer…

(You need; a plain wreath, about 50-60 ornaments (hint get the ones on sale!), hot glue gun, ribbon and about 30 minutes).

I am not a GREAT cook and that’s no secret…I get all my tasty treats from blogs such as; Pioneer Woman, Real SimpleSmitten Kitchen and Yummy Mummy.  I got this cute little appetizer idea from a friend of my Ashley Brooke that she made for the holidays.  We picked this simple cranberry treat from Yummy Mummy!

Who doesn’t love a nice martini (please drink responsibly) or the alternative hot chocolate for all those who prefer a nice nonalcoholic drink.  Check out Real Simples 10 Ideas for: holiday cocktails this Pomegranate Martini is just as delicious as it looks!

If you haven’t learned by now, I love Purdue, basketball, my family and well I am a sucker for paper goods! I took my Christmas card from last year (designed by Ashley Brooke Designs) and framed it in my kitchen I loved it sooo much!  If there is one thing I miss most about Indiana (besides corn and tomatoes) is going to Purdue basketball games with my Dad.  I hope you enjoy our holiday/team spirit as much as we do!

Saving the best for last…. My dear friend and blogger Nina Helleny of According to Nina and friend Erin came up with 25 Acts of Kindness which I LOVE! I printed this off and stuck it to my fridge (best way to look at it multiple times a day).  Be sure to follow her throughout the holidays because I am sure she will have some great ideas/projects for the season!

Don’t forget to smile…it’s contagious! :)

Christine & Larry’s Engagement Pics

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Nothing is more fun for me than getting to work with couples who love to have FUN! Christine and Larry recently went back to the place they first laid eyes on each other, Mizzou (Missouri University) for their engagement pictures. Christine and Larry have been planning their November 26th wedding for months now and it’s hard to believe it is just around the corner! When Christine and Larry are together it just makes sense…and I am looking forward to sending this beautiful bride down the aisle in just a few short weeks!

Great Day St. Louis, Kristin’s Fall Favorites

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

It was so flattering to be asking to join Great Day St. Louis for their July special on how to stay cool in the summer outdoor events…but now I am here to share with you things I LOVE for the Fall- Rustic looks, twigs, mercury glass, candy apples, kettle corn and so much more. I asked my partner in crime, also known as my husband Ryan, to help me out with this one. I had SO much fun and I hope you get some ideas from it yourself! Good Luck and Happy Fall!

Kate and Grant Wiegmann

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Meet Kate and Grant Wiegmann…they were my August 20th clients. Kate and I first met because of her dear old Mizzou DG sorority sister, Mollie Lange (my previous client).  Kate shared with me her and Grant’s ideal St. Louis wedding over a glass of champagne in celebration of their engagement last winter.  They both live in South Carolina yet grew up in Missouri, so it was imperative to bring a little bit of Southern hospitality into their Midwestern wedding.  Kate and I went back and forth with various ideas, modern inspirations, St. Louis locations and tons of tiny details that would end up making their day nothing less than ‘perfect’.  I only got to see Kate and Grant a hand full of times but she became one of my dearest friends.  I found myself chatting with her late nights beginning with”wedding talk” then diverting to latest Bachelor kicked off The Bachelorette.

I always talk about how I love getting to know my clients not only on a business level but a personal one as well.  One of my favorite moments to this day with a client would be with Kate and Grant.  Kate, Grant and I went to the church on one of their visits to St. Louis (they have never seen the church but booked it based on my word, ha).  I could tell they were nervous and anxious to see it for the first time… when we walked outside, Kate jumped up in Grant’s arms with this radiant smile and said, “BABE, I love it! We are getting MARRIED!!!”   I honestly loved being a part of ‘their’ special moment.  It reminded me that it’s not only about the big day…it’s everything leading up to it as well that makes it all the better.  As you can see from these AMAZING pictures captured by Heather Roth Photography,  just how in love these guys are.  (Please check out Heather’s blog for more pictures)

Now, for the good stuff…  As you can see, Kate is a very chic, modern, easygoing, JCrew/Kate Spade prep stylish girl who knows exactly what she wants (my kinda girl).  Her wedding must have was Gebbs Film (see previous post from their same day edit).  Heather Roth photography was the perfect fit for Kate and Grant, it was a “love at first site” kind of thing.  The floral was certainly not Grant’s main priority, but Kate and I had a vision for none other than Becky Huffman to create a look with white floral, fresh plants and twigs and it was amazing!  Lumen Event Space was hands down Kate and Grant’s look, they wanted a reception with food stations so guests could mix and mingle over the course of dinner and it was fabulous (not to mention the Farmers Market station, WOW-delish)!

Oh, I forgot to mention the Wiegmann Gin Bucket- hey it’s family tradition, you know I had to get in on the fun!

Kate and Grant – Same Day Edit from GEBBS on Vimeo.

I am amazed by how many wonderful people I get to work with and for. There is no exception for this couple, it seems like yesterday I started working with Kate and Grant. Kate and Grant both grew up in Missouri and now reside in South Carolina, it was important for them to guarantee their friends and family from all over had the best St. Louis experience. They wanted food stations, welcome bags, great music and simple yet elegant decor. This is just a little sneak peek to their day…more details and photos soon!! (You can’t tell me their first look doesn’t give you goosebumps…every stinking time!)

Kate and Grant thanks so much for letting me be apart of your special day.
Big thanks to all my wonderful St. Louis vendors…

Maggie and Micah Engagement Pictures

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

I must admit this is probably one of the most fun-loving couples I’ve ever met.  Maggie, Micah and families will travel from New Mexico and Texas to the rolling hills of Richland, MO for their July 2nd Rustic tent wedding.  Maggie spent much of her life visiting with family and friends at the beautiful Nickens family country home just outside of Waynesville, MO.  I can’t wait to blog about the details of this wedding!  I have been waiting to explore my Midwest country-side wedding design for years now… make sure you bring your dancing boots and Yee-Haww’s – because Kristin Ashley Events is going country!

Cristy Cross captured Maggie and Micah’s Engagement pictures in New Mexico.
