Anne Cairns and Ryan Fillmann

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

A dear friend of mine, Brit Stewart, (who just happens to be Editor of Landlocked Bride), once said to me, “When searching for a good wedding blog to feature, I like to look behind the pictures and at the couple …I love a great story.” She turned at me and said, don’t you just LOVE a good wedding?! I do love a good wedding and I think great couples (like this one) make us appreciate weddings more than ever!  Just look at these amazing images by Gail Werner, she is hands down one of the best in Indiana!  Gail can tell a beautiful story just by her pictures…

It brings me nothing but joy to see friends and family getting married.  Anne, is considered a friend of mine, but I think of her more like family.  We are sorority sisters (Pi Phi’s) and if you know anything about the Greek community, you know we love our sisters! Anne was always the one looking out for everyone and anyone who comes in contact with her can’t help but to smile.  She had the same reaction on Ryan Fillmann.  Ryan just so happen to be friends with Anne’s brother but never made a move until her sister, Abby’s wedding.  For starters we (her sisters) would not approve of a boy who went to O-H-I-O! However, when we met Ryan, it wasn’t just Anne that fell in love with him… we all fell in love with him.

Ryan took Anne to Pittsburgh for a Steelers game and proposed at Mt. Washington with friends and family to witness it all.  On October 8th, we were so blessed to be apart of their special day, overlooking the most beautiful scenery in Indianapolis, IN.  I always like to stop, look around and take in every moment just like I tell my brides to.  It was such an intimate ceremony filled with hugs, smiles and tears of happiness and even though I can’t take credit for the planning process, it was an honor to be there with them witnessing their promises to each other.  They are truly meant for each other and I can’t wait for them to have little Fillmann’s :)

Anne and Ryan’s Engagement Pictures

Friday, July 8th, 2011

I am fortunate enough to know this bride and groom for years now.  Anne is a sorority sister of mine from Purdue University.  She is one of the most fun loving, humble girls I know.  Everyone that cross paths with this kindergarden teacher has nothing but nice things to say.  So it wasn’t much of a surprise when Ryan felt the same way about her.  We all loved and adored Ryan from day one but we all like to think that he was one lucky guy to snag such a wonderful girl…

Ryan and Anne have known each other for a long time. Their relationship started off just being family friends but they both went off to college didn’t really cross paths again until her senior year of college (Ryan was living/working in Muncie which is not far from Purdue.) Anne laughs and says she wishes she had a great romantic story about how they reunited but it is as simple as it sounds, they ran into each other after many years…at a bar…and have been together ever since.

Happy 2nd Anniversary!

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Little did I know that when I went off to college (yes just across the river) that I would meet the man I was going to marry in just four short weeks.  After losing my mom to cancer in September I didn’t think that 2004 would turn out to be a year I didn’t totally hate after all.  When I met Ryan, he was in a fraternity and I was just getting into my sorority.  I had no intentions in talking to guys at the time but this guy had something about him…maybe it was his good looks…maybe it was his personality…but something about him made me get those crazy butterflies.   Before mom passed I asked her to give me some advise on life.  As a tear ran down her cheek, she simply smiled and said, “Kris just be happy”.

Today is our second anniversary and I can’t tell you how blessed I am to have such a wonderful friend and husband.  Ryan is the guy who picks me up when I am down, laughs with me, hugs me when I need to be loved and my backbone when I need support.  I don’t know if it is luck of faith that I found this guy…but I am pretty blessed to have and to hold Ryan for the rest of my life.  I found my happiness.

Happy Anniversary!

Jamison/Booker Wedding

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

I met Jaclyn while attending Purdue many years ago, she made a lasting impression on me just like she did on her husband, Walter Booker.  Jaclyn has a playful personality and a heart of gold which is probably why Walter could not let her go.  They met just day’s before their college graduation and stood by each other for years until they decided to tie the knot on Friday, September 24th, 2010.

After many weeks of blog researching, Jaclyn collaborated a black and white classical inspiration board.   To tie in a romanic feel she wanted candles everywhere during reception and sparklers at the end of the night.  They were aiming for a sunset ceremony followed by cocktails, dinner and lots of dancing!  One of Jaclyn’s strong attributes is her creativity.  Jaclyn loved the idea of a photo booth but wanted to have a DIY project…so she decided to create her own!  She went to the fabric store and bought two panels of fabric, glasses, hats, feather boa’s and a chalk board for personal messages.  She later made her own scrap book of all the fun messages their guests left for them.

They now live in Tennessee and I am almost positive she will pick up that Southern accent in no time!

Ditto/Wellington Wedding

Friday, December 17th, 2010

Laura and I go back…way back!  We grew up in the same town, Lafayette, Indiana.  We went to the same high school and shared many of the same friends. When Laura told me she was getting married, I knew this was going to be an Indiana wedding I did not want to miss out on.

Even though Laura went to Indiana University and I went to Purdue University, we still had something in common, we joined the same sorority (Pi Beta Phi)!  It was just before her birthday when she attended a Sigma Chi function and was introduced to the man she would soon marry, Matt Wellington.  After undergrad, Laura went to Northwestern to get her masters in Speech-Language Pathology.  It was a cold Friday evening in February when Laura had a long day and was really looking forward to seeing Matt.  Little did she know Matt took the day off to prepare for what might be the most romantic engagement ever.  Matt surprised Laura with roses, scattered rose petals, candle light and champagne…he dropped to one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him.  I can only imagine it being like the scene in Serendipity.  After a nine month engagement Laura and Matt said their vows on November, 20th in Lafayette, Indiana.

The place cards were just one of the little DIY Laura and her mom worked on!

Laura is the youngest in her family so when she told me she was going to include all NINE of her nieces and nephews I had no idea how cute and fun they were going to be!

Laura wanted nothing more than to have photo’s taken at her house that she grew up in.  She comes from a very close family who loves and adores each other (I almost asked if I could be their adopted daughter).  Laura grew up in the most historic neighborhood of Lafayette.  The Ditto house was built in 1929-30 by a wealthy couple who started Ross Gear and Ross Stone.  It’s an English Tudor style.  Part of the upstairs was the “maids’ quarters” and they had a buzzer to call the maid in the dining room.  Her parents bought it from them in 1977–only 2 previous owners.  It is on the Wabash Valley Historical Trust.  These pictures were taken in their library and front door steps.

It doesn’t matter if I do a St. Louis, Chicago or  a Indiana Midwest wedding.  I love working with couples that make an impact on my life. Laura and Matt, thank you for letting me be apart of your special day.  You make a beautiful couple inside and out, I wish you all the love and happiness life has to offer!
